Some places are just meant to be photographed. One of my first clients was the travel company, Backroads. Over the course of 6 years, I traveled all over the world photographing biking, hiking and skiing tours. This image, was shot in 1992 at Pu'uhonua o HÅnaunau, the Place of Refuge on the big island of Hawaii. In ancient times, if a person who broke a sacred law could make it to this site before being captured, they would be spared from death. I love the image but I also love that I have never forgotten the name Pu'uhonua o HÅnaunau.
