Female firefighter from San Francisco Chinatown station on location by editorial and advertising photographer Robert Houser
The personal project was called Motherhood, but it featured no kids. All the images were composites of working women shot on location. The trees were shot somewhere in Berkeley while on assignment, but the firefighter was a project. I had heard there was a woman who drive the back of the ladder truck in San Francisco's Chinatown, so I went to find her. We found her! And she agreed to let me photograph her while she waited for her lunch, we had just a few minutes. We shot on a street corner in North Beach - right on Broadway, using existing afternoon light from the street, shooting toward traffic. The compositing was a challenge because of her clear eye shield.
