In the early days of Yahoo! there were these chairs. Huge purple chairs. Things were so busy in the office, that no one seemed to care when we carried one outside under the trees. This image of young executive, Jeff Mallett, was shot with a 4x5 view camera: full-on old school with a black cloth over my head, a long cable release hanging from the lens. A Polaroid back and then film holders would slide into the camera, exposing a single frame taking about a minute each. The field of focus was 'swung' so that only his eyes were sharp, which meant he and I had to stay quite still. I probably only shot 8 frames for this image â a far cry different from the 500+ frames I might shoot on a digital camera for a portrait now.
